Then, many people want a taste of Montreal culture.
Best is to pick up - in English or French -
one of the free entertainment weeklies:
Hour, the Mirror, or Voir.

Montreal has just about everything, from live music,
to theatres, including a large English language theatre
in the heart of Old Montreal - the Centaur.
Montreal also has Place des Arts -
events nightly from ballet to opera to
popular musicals to classical music.
Then there are the art exhibits,
from those at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts,
to those in a whole array of small art spaces and galleries.


Another question. Are you coming with young children?
They might love the BioDome, the Insectarium - and of course La Ronde,
Montreal's amusement park (open in the summer only).

They might also love excursions out to Montreal, to great water parks,
available less than an hour away in either the Eastern Township or Laurentians.

Older children might also appreciate the Planetarium.


What if you're coming for night life?
Once again, so many choices.
There is the traditional downtown - Crescent and Mountain Street.
There's also St Denis, both the more crowded part south of Sherbrooke,
and the long stretch to the north of Sherbrooke.
Plus there's Montreal's well-known Gay Village, running through the Quartier Latin,
block after block along St Catherine St, to the east of St Denis.

You don't even have to come downtown for nightlife, though.
So many Montrealers love to go out, that even the suburbs have their "villages" -
meaning restaurants, pubs and clubs, as well as boutiques, in a small area,
where people walk and (in summer) people-watch.
So there is the Pointe Claire Village,
12 minutes by autoroute to the west of the Montreal core.
Even Ste Anne de Bellevue, on the very west tip of the island of Montreal,
has its village center.
Closer to downtown - just 10 minutes away -
is trendy Monkland Village, in NDG, Notre ame de Grace.
A couple of minutes further is St Joseph boulevanrd, in Lasalle,
along the marvellous Lachine Canal,
where many Montrealers go to rollerblade, and for an evening out.


More things to do:
- walking ....
the Plateau, Old Montreal, St Denis, and a whole range of neighborhoods;
- shopping ...
everywhere from downtown with one department store still running - the Bay -
and several indoor "cities" from Place Ville Marie, Place Bonaventure, and on;
to hundreds of boutiques in the Plateau area.
- eating ...
in the hundreds of different restaurants,
everything from Thai and Ethiopian,
to Italian, Greek, Spanish, French, Hungarian, Vietnamese,
and on and on ... Japanese, Chinese ...
plus you might like a high-cholesterol local specialty,
poutines.
And then afterwards, back to walking ....

And that's just the very start of things to do in Montreal.

So many places to visit.
from "the mountain," Mont Royal,
where there is tam tam drumming weekly,
as well as, all week long, walking and in winter cross country skiing;
to Parc Lafontaine to the Botanical Gardens to
the architectural diversity of Montreal,
much protected through the concerted efforts of citizens -
with a few people exceptionally prominent.
And of course there is Old Montreal - Vieux Montreal -
cobble stone streets, hundreds of boutiques.
And on and on ...

So many things to do in Montreal,
Montreal activities, Montreal attractions ...
for a memorable Montreal Canada vacation.
